Dreich December, dreich game

Have a miserable Christmas, Killie fans. This game was played on the last Saturday before Christmas and much of the crowd were no doubt nursing hangovers from Friday’s works  nights out. The football offered no salve, but merely added to the headaches. It was the worst second-half performance of the season and the first half wasn’t great given we were playing the worst team in the spl.

The first half started brightly and despite the Bairn’s goal in only 2 mins, Killie managed to level the score through an Invincible scramble and we enjoyed an end-to-end battle that had effort if not much fancy football. The game however ran out of steam as it trundled toward half time and after the start things got much, much worse. Falkirk looked the hungrier team throughout and were first to every loose ball. But at least we matched them in the first half. They were dreadful and we were just as awful. But when the Killie players took the field after the break they looked jaded, leaden like the snow-laced sky.

There was only one more goal, a Falkirk corner being missed by both Brown in goal and Kyle on the line, but some say he actually turned it in for an o.g.

That was it. The team played like they had never met each other before. The crowd booed. Despondency settled in. JJ substituted Owens for Invincible, swapping Taouil to the right wing. That didn’t work so he took off Hamill, our best crosser of the ball for KK’s height, and brought on Russell, with Burchill coming onto the left wing and Owen pushed out right. This let Taouil take up his natural position in the centre for once. He suddenly became useful, managing to make telling passes, but it was too late.

Despite this late slight upturn in standards, we still never looked like getting the draw. The whole team had a malaise. Maybe they had been on their Christmas night out, too.
